Lot Essay

The sitter was the brother-in-law of Lady FitzRoy Somerset and married Lady Mary Charlotte Anne Wellesley-Pole, the niece of the 1st Duke of Wellington. Sir Charles Bagot became Governor-General of British North America in 1842.
