A BRITISH BASKET-HILTED CAVALRY BACK-SWORD
LAST QUARTER 18TH CENTURY
With fullered single-edged blade double-edged towards the point and etched with a crowned 'GR' cypher on each side at the forte, earlier characteristic iron hilt engraved with maker's initials 'R*T' and with oval side-ring and shields with circular and heart-shaped piercings, original wire-bound shagreen-covered grip, original leather liner and remains of original tassels, and cone-shaped pommel engraved 'CMo P / N 29', with associated black leather iron-mounted scabbard marked 'A / 2'
