Lot Essay

1818 was the most successful season of racing for Rhoda, a British thoroughbred racehorse, broodmare, and one of the most active of all British classic winners. The 1818 race at Chelmsford was one of ten wins during the horse's five-year-old season, and one of forty-five in the horse's career. The Racing calendar of 1818 notes that Rhoda ran twice at Chelmsford. The second time, winning the Chelmsford Gold Cup for 100 guineas (Edward and James Weatherby (1819). Racing calendar, 1818. C.H. Reynell. p. 76).
