George Henry Robert Vane-Tempest, Viscount Seaham (1821-1884), later 5th Marquess of Londonderry, as a child, in white dress, blue sash and bow at shoulder, seated; red curtain background

(48 x 38 mm.) high, in octagonal silver easel-frame with pierced border, set with opals, amethyst cabochons, almandine garnets and turquoise, with rose-cut diamond border, the reverse engraved, 'Veiled in deep clouds the distant future lies / And who may pierce them - but human eyes / Nought than thy prospects, fairest boy more fair / Enchants the wanderer through a world of care. / Born. April 26, 1821.'
