A Moscow-based Soviet journalist, Victor Louis worked for a number of western newspapers, including The London Evening News. Although he remains a controversial figure as regards the relationship between the Soviet Union and the West, Louis was friends with various unofficial or 'nonconformist' artists, including Oscar Rabin. It was Louis who introduced Rabin to Eric Estorick (1913-1993) on his first visit to Moscow. As a result of this acquaintance, Rabin's first one-man show was held at Estorick's Grosvenor Gallery in London in 1965.
