Lot Essay

Published in New York in 1989, The Beasts of St Anthony was the fruit of creative collaboration between Mikhail Chemiakin and the contemporary Russian émigré poet, Dmitry Bobyshev (b. 1936). After studying at the Leningrad State Institute of Technology, Bobyshev began to write poetry, provoking Anna Akhmatova to dedicate her poem, The Fifth Rose to him in recognition of his talent.
