AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURED AMPHORA (TYPE B)
NEAR THE SWING PAINTER, CIRCA 520 B.C.
One side with two warriors in combat over a fallen comrade, each armed with a crested Corinthian helmet, a corslet and greaves, each with a circular shield, a disk framed by V's, a reverse kappa, and an octopus as the blazons, the combatants wielding spears in their raised right hands, a mantled figure looking on from each side; a band of dotted lotus bud chain above; the other side with two warriors in combat, a female in between them moving right but looking back, wearing a dotted and striped peplos, the warriors each armed with a crested Corinthian helmet, that to the left plumed, a corslet and greaves, with a sword hanging from a baldric, each holding a circular shield, a spear in their lowered hands, pseudo inscriptions in the field, tendrils above the groundline; a double band of ivy above, rays above the foot, details in added red and white
