ONE OF 50 LARGE-PAPER COPIES, finely bound by Charles Lewis for George Agar-Ellis, trustee of the British Museum and the National Gallery, and patron of the arts. Griesbach’s second edition of the New Testament. 'Since 1777 when the first edition appeared, the text of important codices, such as A and D, had been printed, Alter, Birch, Matthaei and others, had increased critical knowledge, while Griesbach himself had collected new stores of material. Selecting from these, he enriched his apparatus, and also slightly revised the printed text’ (Darlow & Moule 4782).
