The Book of Common Prayer. London: John Bill, 1661. 4 parts in one volume, 2° (363 x 229mm). Black letter, ruled in red throughout. General title and part title with woodcut border, title and calendar in red and black, woodcut headpieces and initials, extra-illustrated with 28 engraved plates, some after Faithorne. (Old marginal repairs in Bb3-5, occasional light marginal dampstaining and light soiling.) Contemporary red morocco, sides centred with the royal arms of Great Britain on a black morocco onlay, within a gilt ruled and tooled panel with floral corner tools and touches of black paint, gilt edges, spine gilt in compartments with touches of black paint (lacking ties, chip to onlay on lower board, extremities rubbed, corners bumped). Provenance: John Bill (publisher; presentation inscription to:) -- Frances Fane (perhaps a daughter of Midway Fane, 2nd earl of Westmorland) -- Mrs R. Colley -- Mrs Buck (late 18th-century inscription inscription recording the gift) -- Sir George Stucley (b.1859; title signature dated Moreton 1894).
