FIRST ESTIENNE EDITIONS of Herodotus in Valla's Latin translation and the original Greek. The plates depict Babylon, the bridge and citadel, the hanging gardens and the tower of Babel. As Schreiber points out for the 1592 edition, they are an integral part of the book.
