Woodcut printer's device to title and verso of last leaf, initials, head- and tailpieces, one diagram in the text. (Minor marginal worming at end, occasional light spotting and soiling.) Contemporary German blindstamped half pigskin and green-dyed vellum over pasteboard, red edges (lacking ties, lightly rubbed, corners bumped). Provenance: Frohnleiten, Austria, convent (ink inscription on title).
A handsome copy of the collected works of Giovanni Pico and his nephew and champion, Gianfrancesco Pico. The combined appearance of their works contributed to conflating the two men, diminishing the elder philosopher's reputation as a Neoplatonist and cabalist while increasing it as a Christian reformer and proto-Protestant.
