Lot Essay

The inscriptions on this painting allow us to identify the Goddess seated in the upper circle as Padmavati. She resides in the middle of the assembly of gods. The relation between the upper and lower mandalas on this panel is not clear. The inscriptions seem to refer to the concept of pranayama, a form of yogic discipline.
