The present qin is of Confucius style, characterised by its austere form with simple straight sides. See other Ming examples, bearing names in appellation to its sound, included in the exhibition, 2000 Years of Chinese Lacquer, Hong Kong, 1993 and illustrated by Teo Kheng Chong and Yip Shing Yiu, in the 'Catalogue': no. 113, 'Spring Breeze' and no. 114, 'Bells on a Frosty Day'. Compare to another qin of Confucius style, dated to Ming/Qing dynasty (1368-1911), sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 2012, lot 1331.
