De forme rectangulaire, il représente un paysage lacustre en laque brune et noire sculptées, rehaussées d'incrustations en ivoire teinté, pierres dures et jichimu. Sur un grand lac naviguent des barques de pêcheurs. Certaines sont amarées le long d'une berge rocailleuse. Sur les rives arborées sont construits plusieurs villages. Le hameau principal, composé de pavillons et d'un temple, est délimité par une enceinte. Devant la grande porte se tient un spectacle auquel assistent des villageois et leurs enfants. D'autres se livrent à des activités de la vie quotidienne ou cheminent à cheval sur les sentiers escarpés de hautes montagnes. Du haut de nuages vaporeux, cinq immortels taoïstes contemplent ce monde prospère. Le cadre d'origine est en laque rouge sculptée de rinceaux fleuris sur fond de treillis losangés. L'accroche en bronze doré est composée des corps noueux de deux chilong affrontés de part et d'autre du caractère shou.

Embellished panels of this type, inlaid with ivory, wood, jade and other precious materials, can be found in a myriad of arrangements and subject matter, and served as imperial furnishings throughout the Palace rooms. See, for example, several panels in-situ in the Forbidden City, illustrated in Ming Qing Gongting Jiaju Daguan, Beijing, pp. 695-701.
A similar example was sold at Christie's London, 6 June 2000, lot 205.
