As confirmed by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the present lot was especially made upon the special request from a distinguished English Art collector. The owner of this exquisite timepiece was a huge collector of English paintings of the Victorian period, especially focused on Lord Leighton's paintings. He requested the Le Sentier based manufacturer to create an enameled reproduction of one of his favorite private collection artwork, the Pavonia (oil on canvas, 1859).

The outstanding quality of the portrait created by the celebrated enameling art of Jaeger-LeCoultre émailleurs makes this Unique Piece not only an exclusive timepiece but also an exquisite piece of art.

The present lot as well as the original Lord Leighton's Pavonia were exhibited in the George Tarratt show room in Leicester for one week in June 2008.

Lord Frederic Leighton (1830-1896).

Frederic, Lord Leighton was - and still is - an important Victorian artist. Leighton can be considered one of the most significant painters of his time. He was appointed President of the Royal Academy in 1878 and he was also the first English painter to be given a peerage. Lord Leighton was so successful during his lifetime mainly because his paintings brilliantly captured the Victorian nostalgia for the glorious "Golden Age" of ancient Greece and Rome.
