QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
Each side is delicately painted en grisaille with a different landscape scene within gilt borders below foliate sprays in famille rose reserved on a yellow ground on the very slightly domed shoulder, with a foliate diaper encircling the shallow waisted neck. The interior and the base are covered in a turquoise enamel.

Lot Essay

This rare, elegant shape and unusual combination of grisaille and famille rose is usually seen on medallion-decorated sgraffiato-ground bowls, and no other waterpot of this facetted shape appears to have been published.
