A RARE CLOISONNE ENAMEL FAN-SHAPED PANEL
LATE MING DYNASTY
The fan-shaped surface is delicately decorated in multi-coloured enamels on a turquoise ground depicting the recluse Jiang Ziya reading a book on a high promontory overlooking the river, while a messenger from King Wen of Zhou charges forward on a white horse on the river bank, in attempt to enlist Jiang to be King Wen's statesman. The idyllic landscape is further detailed with overhanging pine trees, jagged rocks and billowing clouds.
