The cylindrical brushpot is carved using a whole piece of chenxiang wood, and incised on the exterior with a continuous landscape scene depicting a farmhouse nestled in the mountains, below a poetic inscription signed Xiya.

Lot Essay

Xiya was a famous late Qing dynasty/Republic period bamboo and wood carver, whose works were highly prized by artists like Zhang Daqian, Wu Hufan and Wu Changshuo.
