Lot Essay

See the very similar bottle decorated with birds on oak branches sold from the collection of Michael and Anne Ripley, 'The Aesthetic Interior: Featuring Nineteenth Century Art', Christie's, New York, 13 March 2001, lot 219. This bottle was also decorated in by Alboin Birks for the 1878 Exposition Universelle, and is very likely the pair to the present lot.
