Lot Essay

In 1875, the Viellard & Cie. manufactory began making wares which they referred to as ‘enamels’, which incorporated slightly raised decoration, often in the cloisonné style. The process was developed by Amadeus of Caranza from Longwy, and was generally either Moorish or Japanese in design, of which the present lot would appear to be an example.

See the part service of the same design sold at Christie's Paris, 21 November 2012, lot 23.
