The serpentine-fronted Sarancolin moulded marble top above a pierced frieze, flanked by winged female supports joined by a shaped stretcher, the urn finial replaced

Lot Essay

A similar table featuring closely related winged female supports sold Christie’s, New York, May 24, 2001, lot 205. The latter console table was almost certainly supplied to Louis Auguste de Bourbon, duc de Maine (1670-1753) illegitimate son of Louis XIV, for the Chateau de Sceaux.
