The ormolu mounts are based on a set of three Chinese celadon porcelain vases in the collection of the Louvre supplied by the Darnault brothers to Mesdames Adélaïde and Victoire in 1782, and updated with the Egyptian terms in 1786. See D. Alcouffe, Gilt-Bronze in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, p. 229.

A pair of very similar vases with dancing Bacchante in the place of the initials was sold Christie's, New York, 15 June 2005, lot 424, while a nearly identical pair was sold from the collection of Carl Desantis, Sotheby's, New York, 4 November 2011, lot 103.
