Lot Essay

Accompanied by a Rolex fitted presentation box stamped Calderoni S.A.
The present watch comes from the granddaughter of the original owner. He purchased the watch in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia which was an Italian colony in the early 20th century.

Reference 3834 was launched in the early 1940's, using the famous small size Valjoux caliber 69 chronograph movement. Examples of this model in well-preserved and original condition are exceedingly rare. The rarity of this present watch is furthermore enhanced by the beautiful and unusual pink dial, a case back still clearly engraved with case and reference numbers, and presence of the retailers's signature.

An example of the reference 3834 is illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 138 & 139.
