A SUPERB PORTRAIT OF FAULKNER, INSCRIBED TO HIS LITERARY AGENT HAROLD OBER: "To Harold Ober With gratitude and affection Bill Faulkner Oxford 1 Sept 1954." Harold Ober (1881-1959) was an American literary agent, representing authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Agatha Christie, Philip Wylie, Pearl Buck and Walter D. Edmonds and J. D. Salinger. He met Faulkner in 1935 and worked with him until his death in 1959. The typed description from Harold Ober Associates (originally on the reverse of an early frame and here preserved in a pocket on the reverse of the modern archival frame) states: "This photograph of William Faulkner was given to us by Life Magazine with the understanding that we would never permit its reproductions anywhere. It was published originally in Life sometime in June or July 1953, in connection with Jill F[aulkner]'s commencement."
