Much of the furniture purchased by Anna Clark for her bedroom at 907 Fifth Avenue was from the Paris firm Maison Krieger. The highly prolific firm was established in 1826 by Antoine Krieger and his brother Nicolas, with premises at 17, rue Saint-Nicolas, in Paris. Though changing address and name several times, the atelier became known as Damon & Cie circa 1880, and moved to 74, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine. The company produced and exhibited furniture in many styles, both copying and creating modern interpretations of 18th century and Empire designs.
For late 20th century copies of many of these pieces of furniture commissioned by Huguette Clark in hopes of replicating her beloved mother's bedroom suite, see lots 264 and 265.
