MITCHELL, Margaret, Gone with the Wind, New York: Macmillan, 1938, first edition, October 1938 printing, original grey cloth boards and dust jacket, personally owned and used by Ona Munson who played Belle Watling in the 1939 M.G.M film Gone With The Wind, the majority of references to Belle Watling underlined in red pencil, the flyleaf signed in red pencil by director Victor Fleming, Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh and Olivia de Havilland, additionally signed and inscribed in orange pencil by costume designer Walter Plunkett Belle's Walter Plunkett with a whimsical watercolour and pencil sketch of a bustier with bell tassels

Lot Essay

Sadly, Ms. Munson felt her role as the tainted Belle Watling typecast her, thus ruining her Hollywood career. She tragically made mention of this fact in her suicide note sixteen years later, when she died at the age of forty-nine.
