Lot Essay

The swagged and tasselled drapery toprail appears on a single walnut side chair with a solid splat sold by The St. Louis Art Museum. A set of six Irish chairs with related toprail design and pierced splats was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 6 July 2000, lot 36.
