2 parts in one volume, 8° (151 x 98mm). Text in Latin and French. Title within border with Du Pre's gallery and initials at foot and figures of Juno, Jupiter, Arion, the Graces, Neptune and Ceres [Renouards 267 lower portion], 193 woodcut emblems. (Without final blank, browning and spotting, heavier at beginning, I8 with repaired tear, some leaves closely shaved.) 19th-century blue morocco gilt, gilt spine, turn-ins and edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: S.A. Thompson Yates (book label).

FIRST(?) EDITION of this anonymous French translation with parallel Latin text. Neither of these translations was taken from the Kerver editions: the Latin is the Trebatius text, the earliest Latin translation, first printed in Augsburg in 1515. The cuts are attributed to Jean Cousin or Jean Goujon, which first appeared in the French edition of 1543. Adams H-850; Landwehr Romanic 389; Mortimer Harvard French, 316; Murray 283.
