4° (196 x 148mm). Engraved title, engraved arms of Louis de La Chatre, and 50 engraved emblems. (Faint dampstaining throughout, light soiling on title and blank verso of last leaf, occasional light browning.) Full green morocco by J. Haines with stamp, sides panelled in blind and centred with a crescent moon in gilt, spine lettered directly in gilt, gilt turn-ins.

FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE EMBLEM BOOK PRIVATELY PRINTED ON A PROVINCIAL PRESS. 'The copperplates are of unusual quality for a provincial engraver and are characterized by luxuriant foliage and careful detail of buildings and city views as background' (Mortimer). Rare: ABPC records just one copy at auction, the Schaefer copy, and AE adds another, the Feinsilber copy.
