Woodcut printer's device on title and on final recto, colophon on verso. 132 woodcut illustrations by Jost Amman, all but one printed on rectos only, (A few light spots, or light browning.) 18th-century red morocco, triple gilt border on sides, flat spine decorated and lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges (extremities very lightly rubbed, spine very lightly faded). Provenance: [Jean] Ballesdens (1600-1675; editor, collector of Grolier bindings, and personal secretary secretary to Chancellor Pierre Séguier; title signature); S. A. Thompson Yates (bookplate).
AN ATTRACTIVE COPY of the second edition in Latin, with the full series of fine WOODCUTS BY JOST AMMAN depicting the professions and trades: printer, clockmaker, goldsmith, tailor, barber, potter, et al. The Latin editions (1568 and 1574) contain additional woodcuts, 18 more than are found in the German editions of the same years. Adams S-703; Colas 112; Lipperheide 1948; Praz p. 493.
