First work with engraved title in state 'ii' with printer's address and 26 engraved plates; second work with engraved title and seven engraved plates. (Title of first work lightly soiled.) 19th-century calf gilt, gilt turn-ins and edges. Provenance: ATY? (gift inscription dates 1912 to:) -- H. Bright -- Henrici Thompson Yates (booklabel dated 1903).
FIRST EDITIONS, FINE COPIES. Unlike the print of the Theatrum mulierum the figures in Hollar's work, Ornatus muliebris Anglicanus, are purely fashion plates rather than portrayals of the dresses of the classes of society and different occupations and nationalities. The second work in this volume, Septem Liberales Artes, contains seven fine engraved plates showing the liberal arts as female figures. Parthey-Pennington 1778-1803.
