COWPER, William (1731-1800). Poems … a new edition. London: J. Johnson, 1798. 2 volumes, 12° (164 x 90mm). 10 engraved plates after T. Stothard. (Some offsetting.) Finely bound in contemporary straight-grained red morocco, inner gilt frame with scalloped corners each supporting a festoon of flowers, spine with black morocco labels in two compartments, the rest with pointillé tooling surrounding small circular olive green onlays, gilt edges (minor ink stain on back cover of vol. II, joints rubbed ever so slightly). Provenance: Reginald Cholmondeley, Condover Hall (bookplate).

With 3 other 8° volumes in later leather gilt, comprising Gilbert White A Naturalist’s Calendar (1795, first edition), an undated edition of Joe Miller’s Jests [1796?], both with ex libris of A.H. Bright, and Alexander Cory The Hieroglyphics of Horapollo Nilous (1840), ex libris S.A. Thompson Yates.
