John Trower of Muntham Place, Findon, West Sussex, died circa. 1840 at the age of 85. He is recorded as Devis's patron and is reputed to have bought all the contents of Devis' studio on the artist's death. (See S.H. Paviere. The Devis Family of Painters, 1950, p.97.)
