A sculpted and carved oak dining suite comprising: a dining table, the glass top supported on three united, shaped and carved blocks each on three supports; and ten chairs each having a carved block seat with twin uprights, small grooved foot rest at the front, on roller castors
Table: 29 ½ in. (75 cm.) high; 94 1/8 in. (239 cm.) long; 46 in. (117 cm.) wide: tallest chair 64 ¼ in. (163 cm.) high; 14 in. (35.5 cm.) wide: 16 in. (40.4 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Alison Crowther was born in 1965 in West Yorkshire. She studied at the Royal College of Art, London ( 1987-89). Crowther has exhibited her work widely since 1992 and has received a number of substantial commissions including, pews for Winchester Cathedral ( 1996), a Lover’s Seat for Chatsworth Park, Derbyshire (1999), and modular seats for The Cass Foundation (2006). Her work can be found in the USA, Europe, Hong Kong and China and earlier this year Crowther installed two huge sculptural tables for clients, the Shangri-La Hotel, in the iconic Ting restaurant at The Shard, London.

Alison Crowther was born in 1965 in West Yorkshire. She studied at the Royal College of Art, London ( 1987-89). After a period of teaching at Bedales School in Hampshire, since 1998 she has been able to devote herself full-time to designing and making furniture and sculpture. Crowther has exhibited her work widely since 1992 and has received a number of substantial commissions including, 5 pews for Winchester Cathedral ( 1996), a Lover’s Seat for Chatsworth Park, Derbyshire (1999), 10 modular seats for The Cass Foundation, West Sussex ( 2006), and work for private clients throughout Europe and the USA including Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island, MA, USA. Corporate clients include, two large sculptures for the landscape of Fidelity International at Tonbridge, a tripartite sculpture for Swire Properties at 3 Pacific Place Hong Kong, and she more recently sold work for a new resort Sheraton Hotel in Guangzhou, China. Closer to home, Crowther installed a collection of Rolling Benches for the Rothschild Foundation at Waddesdon in 2012, and has had reception 'meet and greet' sculptures placed in the boutique Chapter Hotels in Cheltenham and Exeter. Earlier this year, April 2014, Crowther installed two huge sculptural tables for clients, the Shangri-La Hotel, in the iconic Ting restaurant at The Shard, London.

The work can currently be seen outdoors at the New Art Centre, Roche Court, Salisbury, The Cass Foundation, Goodwood, West Sussex and at galleries within London, Contemporary Applied Arts and Flow Gallery. Forthcoming exhibitions include showing at the inaugural 'Country Life Fair' ( www.countrylifefair.co.uk) , in September 2014 at Fulham Palace, London, where Crowther will be showing new maquettes and there are plans for a solo show at The Bedales Gallery, Hampshire, in the autumn of 2015.
