Philip Nowell was the master-mason under architect Jeffry Wyatt (later Sir Jeffry Wyatville) who employed him for the extensive restoration of Windsor Castle in 1824-25. He was responsible for carving various Gothic details amongst many others. Nowell was also the mason for the Duke of York's column and he restored and managed the additions to Apsley House.
