A PARTLY PATINATED AND GILT SHEET METAL, GLASS AND PATINATED WROUGHT IRON FLOOR LAMP WITH CANDLEHOLDERS BY ANDRÉ DUBREUIL, UNIQUE PIECE, 1987
This floor lamp was included in the inaugural French exhibition of André Dubreuil's designs, organized by Gladys Mougin and Yves Gastou, at the latter's eponymous Parisian gallery, in May 1988. For this exhibition, the designer utilized sheet steel with leopard-spot torch-marks to explore scale and volume. The exhibition prompted a strong response from both the press and from collectors, amongst whom could be counted Karl Lagerfeld, who observed that the works were "the sign of the moment (...) somewhere between the Baroque and the science-fiction of Conan"
