Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the enobled pig is a caricature of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, Liberal Prime Minister, 1905-1908. Against vociferous opposition, he restored self-government to the Boer Republics in 1905 and the Transvaal in 1906.
