Further details
Ein Weberaufstand (Weavers Revolt), from which Sturm (riot) is one subject, was Kollwitz's first portfolio. It addressed themes such as oppression, inequality and the relentless desire of freedom - issues which recur frequently in the artist's graphic works. The Silesian weavers revolt of 1842 was the inspiration for this series.
