Further details
Rear-Admiral Sir Christopher Cradock, KCVO, CB (1862-1914) entered the Royal Navy in 1875 and, after serving at the British occupation of Crete (1878) and with the naval brigade in Upper Egypt (1884), greatly distinguished himself by his remarkable courage during the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900. Thereafter, he proved himself an outstanding leader in several commands and was promoted to flag rank in 1910. Having been a Lieutenant in the Royal Yacht Victoria & Albert from 1894-96 and Naval A.D.C. to King Edward VII from 1909-10, he was knighted in 1911 for his part in the dramatic rescue of the Duke and Duchess of Fife (H.R.H. The Princess Royal) and their two young daughters who were passengers aboard the P.& O. liner Delhi which was driven ashore and wrecked on Cape Spartel, Morocco, on 13th December 1911.
