A clockmaker, silversmith and instrument maker, Abiel Chandler (1807-1881) lived in Concord, New Hampshire throughout his life. After training under his father, Timothy, Abiel established his business in 1830, initially working in partnership with his father. In 1844, he advertised as a "Philosophical Instrument Maker" and his wares included a variety of surveying tools.
