A LONGQUAN CELADON TRIPOD CENSER
MING DYNASTY, CIRCA 1522-1566
The deep sides are raised on three cabriole legs and are carved in relief with the Eight Trigrams between bands of inscribed waves and scrolls below a raised border and a band of classic scroll just below the rim. The exterior is covered with a glaze of sea-green color that continues over the rim into the unglazed interior where the potting marks are visible, and over the lower edge onto the base around an unglazed circle.

A similar censer is illustrated by J. Harrison-Hall in Catalogue of Late Yuan and Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, 2001, p. 496, no. 16:89, where it is dated ca. 1522-1566.
