LATE SHANG DYNASTY, 12TH-11TH CENTURY BC
The trumpet-shaped neck is cast with four cicada blades, the central and bottom sections with taotie masks reserved on a leiwen ground, which are divided by four vertical ribbed flanges. There is extensive malachite encrustation.
10¾ in. (27.3 cm.) high, Japanese double wood box, the interior of one box with an inscription by Hata Zoroku III (1854-1932) describing the vessel
