Lot Essay

The bronziers Maison Mottheau & Fils are perhaps best known for their 'torchère lumineuse' exhibited at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle.

A pair of almost identical commodes, almost certainly by the same maker, sold as lot 61 at Sotheby's New York, "A Private Collection: Volume 2, Important Furniture and Decoration Inspired by XVIII Century Models", 19 April 2007 ($66,000).
