Lot Essay

The plaster comes from a Marseilles family who have always understood it is made by Auguste-Henri Carli, (1868-1930).
The subject is one of the panels executed by Della Robbia for the Cantoria or 'Singing Gallery' for the Florence Duomo 1431-1438.
