Arabic manuscript on buff paper, 352ff., each folio with 11ll. of flowing black rayhani with interlinear red Persian translation, green and gold black-outlined rosette verse markers, sura headings in black-outlined gold, illuminated marginal medallions marking the divisions of text, later replacement folio at beginning and end, lacking folios at the beginning and end, some staining and repairs

Lot Essay

An Ilkhanid Qur’an manuscript in the Türk ve Islam Eserleri Müzesi in Istanbul which is dated AH 734/1333-34 AD has very similar sura headings in gold and marginal palmettes to our present manuscript (1400. Yilinda Kur'an-i Kerim, exhibition catalogue, Istanbul, 2010, kat.57, pp.254-55).
