Before each sura is a scholarly introduction which gives details including the place and circumstances of the revelation.

The layout of the text in this Qur’an with two lines of muhaqqaq framing smaller lines of naskh is a feature shared by other Ilkhanid Qur’ans. Of note is an Ilkhanid Qur’an in the Türk ve Islam Eserleri Müzesi in Istanbul attributed to the end of the 14th century (1400. Yilinda Kur'an-i Kerim, exhibition catalogue, Istanbul, 2010, kat.56, pp. 252-53). However the kufic sura headings and the large gold and polychrome illuminated roundels are similar to those found on a Qur’an also in the collection of the Türk ve Islam Eserleri Müzesi but attributed to the Seljuk Anatolia, possibly Konya and dating to the 13th century, (1400. Yilinda Kur'an-i Kerim, exhibition catalogue, op.cit., kat.49, pp.232-33).
