Lot Essay

For another portrait of Prince Jalal al-Din Mirza see Yahya Zoka, Life and Works of Sani' ol-Molk, 1814-1866, Tehran, 2003, fig. 11, p. 153. That portrait illustrates the prince from a very different angle and clean shaven. The shape of the nose found on both portraits is however distinctive and similar.
