Rising from a wide trumpet foot through a bulbous body with flattened sides tapering to a cylindrical neck with pronounced knop widening to mouth with wide flattened rim with cusped palmette terminal, curved spout, the flattened sections of the body with drop-shaped cartouches containing elegant inscription against engraved striated grounds, surrounded by roundels containing further elegant inscriptions with the names of the Prophet and his descendants on a ground of scrolling floral vine, the front and back with further nasta'liq inscription roundels issuing small cusped palmettes, two calligraphic roundels on the neck, foot with a band of geometric strapwork, the neck and base of the spout repaired

On the neck, a repeat of the call to bless Muhammad, and in the small roundels around the large roundels on the body, the names of the 14 innocents
On the spout, Qur'an XVII, sura al-isra', v.73 and the owner's inscription, 'Qamar al-Dawla'
In the teardrop roundel on the back. Qur'an XXXV, sura fatir, v.43 (part) and Qur'an LXVIII, sura al-qalam, v.4
