Lot Essay

Ghulam 'Abbas Shah made a sword for Nadir Shah Afshar, the Iranian ruler of the Afsharid dynasty (r. 1736-47 AD), which sold at Christie's, 10 April 2014, lot 94. The quality of the present blade, forged and carved with calligraphic inscriptions and palmette scrolls certainly indicateS a princely commission.
