Shams al-Din Muhammad bin Hasan bin ‘Ali bin ‘Uthman al-Nawaji was born in Egypt in 1386 and died in 1455. He was a respected poet and wrote several anthologies. “His most famous work, Halbat al-Kumayt, [is] a literary celebration of wine and connected themes, which remained popular in spite of pious attacks” indicates G.J.H Van Gelder in Encyclopedia of Arabic Literature, New York, 1998, Vol.2, p.584. He is recorded in Al-A’lam, vol.6, p.88.
